Veteran Education Benefits
Veterans Affairs administers several education programs for active duty military personnel, veterans, and dependents. Each program provides different benefits for different individuals. Research the various benefit programs below and select the one that works best for you. For additional information contact a VA education representative at 1-888-GIBILL-1.
Chapter 30 The Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty, is for individuals who enlisted in the military after June 30, 1985. The MGIB provides up to 36 months of education benefits to individuals who qualify.
Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, is a unique program for veterans with service-connected disabilities. If determined eligible by a VR&E caseworker, full tuition, fees, and books are paid for by the VA to the school.
Chapter 33 Post-9/11 provides benefits to individuals with at least 90 days of service after September 10, 2001, or to individuals discharged with service-connected disability after 30 days. Ch 33 provides financial support for education as well as a monthly housing allowance.
Chapter 35 Survivors & Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA) provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans.
Chapter 1606 Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) is a benefit program available to members of the military who are in the Selected Reserve.
Chapter 1607 Reserve Educational Assistance (REAP) provides educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency as declared by the President or Congress.
The Yellow Ribbon Program is an agreement between the university and the Department of Veteran Affairs to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest in-state undergraduate tuition rate.
